Carlos is a music educator of more than 35 years experience as well as an ARIA Award nominee musician/ composer. He has a Bachelor of Music (Composition) from Central Queensland University, PhD studies in Music Composition from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and Master of Teaching studies at Charles Sturt University.
Carlos started his classical guitar studies at the prestigious Universidad de Chile, Facultad de Musica (1986-1987) and continued at Sydney Conservatorium of Music (1988-1990). Subsequently he undertook guitar studies in various styles including Cuban, Peruvian, Brazilian (and other Latin American music) as well as jazz guitar studies with private teachers. His vast experience has allowed him to write the GEKO Technical Guitar Method which is an effective tool for developing the skills needed to study classical guitar repertoire for all ages & levels.
Carlos has lectured in tertiary institutions around Australia and overseas in areas such as Music Pedagogy for Children, Teaching Latin American music in the classroom and presented thousands of educational concerts in primary schools, high schools and tertiary institutions around Australia, Asia and Latin America through Musica Viva, Australia's premier presenter of live music education concerts. A 4-part documentary series about his life and musical heritage entitled "Viva" was shown in TV networks in Australia and overseas. Carlos also features in the ABC for Kids TV children's music show "Lah Lah's Adventures". Currently he teaches full time through his GEKO Music Online Academy.
